Wool has played a larger part in Polish culture for centuries. The durable wool of the Polish mountain sheep greatly aided with insulation, clothing and bedding. Merino sheep in Poland are mostly located in central Poland, where the climate is not as harsh, and, therefore, the wool is not as coarse as the Mountain sheep’s wool.
Polish Wool
There are a few things to keep in mind when working and caring for wool. If treated properly, woolen items can last up to eighty years, well beyond the life of synthetic items. Wool is easily refreshed by hanging in the fresh air and sun for a few hours. If a wash is needed, hand wash gently with a wool wash or delicate detergent. Lie flat to dry so the item does not stretch larger than it was created.
Nestled in the mountain town of Zakopane, Poland, Honeycomb Knits founder, Bethany, works from a home studio. All woolen items are created here with care. All works are currently hand knit and no chemical additives are used in the process.
