Honeycomb Knits was founded in the foothills of Zakopane, Poland. We aim to create durable and functional items from Polish wool to promote the local creation of goods. All operations are done with the sustainable and circular business model in mind. We believe that transparency is the key to working towards a just future, therefore, the origins and production of our products openly shared.
Zakopane is nestled in the southern border where Poland meets Slovakia, where mountains and valleys host grazing sheep and their shepherds, as they have for hundreds of years. An international move from Boston, MA, USA in 2023 gave founder, Bethany, the opportunity to explore this rich culture further. After learning how to knit that summer, she soon realized that working with wool greatly combined her enthusiasm for art, building sustainable practices, and supporting local communities. Hence, Honeycomb Knits was born.
So why Honeycomb Knits, Bethany?
Firstly, honeycomb is an incredibly beautiful structure made of the same shape over and over - similar to how knitted items are made from small stitches over and over. Secondly, there is a stitch pattern named the Honeycomb Stitch. Lastly, my nickname to a few close people is B (pronounced bee) and that brought me again to the honeycomb theme, as I (the bee) am making my knits (the honeycomb).
Thank you for being here and following along. I am incredibly excited to share my work with you.
